Pop-up... Round up! - Booth shots -

If you didn't already know, I set up shop at the Knitting and Stitching Show, Harrogate. Build-up day was Wednesday.

Here's a 'before' shot of the booth... sort of...

By this point I had already pinned up the wall paper (left-overs from a friends living room) and hung a couple of pictures.

Here's the booth finished, but minus the jewellery! I hung my best press photos at the edge to catch people's eyes as the walked past, inluding the shot of Eliza Doolittle wearing her Wild Jezebel necklace. I also created a gallery of my customers wearing their buys.

Several things I have here that I wouldn't generally take to a fair: a taylor's dummy, a bust mannequin, cake stands, and a large mirror mounted to the wall.

And here's a couple of photos of the finished booth... I must say - I was very happy with the finished look!

Caught off guard, texting!  That day I was sporting a pink Forecast of Fun Thunderbolt Necklace

The table layout

Notice the taylor's dummy. I dressed this in a leopard print prom dress to show my work goes well with dressy togs as well as casuals!

Here's the bust I dressed in a bright Lazy Oaf tee. I got it in a lucky dip bag and it's just not my colour. Perfect Kitschen Sink colours though! Also notice the random hand holding business cards and the super cool comic table cloth!

And a cake stand made of vinyl records!

I also made lots of price signs in the shapes of comic bubbles. Attention to detail is tres important, don't you know ;-)

Preparing to Pop-up #14: Love-Lego and Cute Cameos

A few last minute treasures for you to see before the big set-up day!

 Heart-shaped Lego on a chain. Love-Lego!

A choice selection of colourful cameos. Haven't made these in a while.

Loving the pastel shades!

Next updates will document the show itself.... eeeek!

Preparing to Pop-up #13: More Manga!

My main focus of the preparation for this week's (eek!!) event was to get lots of Manga heart pendants finished.

They're always popular - so much so there's never any left to sell online!

Each one is different and one-of-a-kind. Some images are decoupaged with words from the same scene in the book, to add a little je ne sais quoi!

I made fifty of these little beauties. That's right! Fifty! They'll retail at £21.

Preparing to Pop-up #12: Copious cufflinks

Lego cufflinks make the ideal Christmas gift for the suit-wearing man who's young at heart.

Stiff suits can lack personality - these cufflinks presented in a vintage comic giftbox will add a little wicked to a weary work wardrobe.

Preparing to Pop-up #10: Thundercats HO!

A special collection for the Knitting and Stitching Show... a new type of necklace made from an original Thundercats annual from the 80s.

I made the pendants a long while ago, but wasn't sure how to hang them.

Each option I tried seemed to lack a little 'je ne sais quoi'.

I added a couple of coordinating star beads and chunky snake chains. Perfectly 80s.

All are one-of-a-kind!

What do you think?

Thundercats, HO! xoxo

Preparing to Pop-up #9: Bundles of brooches

Last night, I cracked on with some brooch making. I had already cast a number of shapes in multi-coloured resin and it was high time I glued the pinbacks on. Here's a sneak peek:

Don't they look so pretty?!

In between glue dispensing I enjoyed some Crabbie's alcoholic ginger ale I found at Aldi! What a delicious treat!

Preparing to Pop-up #7: Vintage comic-covered notebook sneak peek!

Amongst other things, I've been having some real fun covering notebooks with some of my vintage comics.

Although I love all my collection, there are some that seem just too special to cut into small pieces to put into jewellery - some should be able to be seen near-full story glory!

So here we go... a little peek at things to come. What do you reckon?

The notebook and its mum

They'll retail at £9 throughout December, a bargain! Available at the Knitting and Stitching Show, and after, online.

Preparing to Pop-up #6: Welcomed distractions: A trip to Whitby

I got wonderfully surprised last week with an overnight trip to Whitby! It was the best time to go too: it was Goth Weekend!

Weird hearse we found on the West Cliff

I learnt all about how Bram Stoker took his inspiration from Whitby on one of those ghost walks. It was very good! It's inspired me to do a Halloween collection for next year!

...and we did a boat trip where we learnt about Captian Cook's voyages of discovery....

...and now I am home and feeling a touch of the post-holiday blues!

Preparing to Pop-up #5: Welcomed distractions: A day trip to Hebden Bridge

I'm still waiting on a couple of replacements for the packages that have gone missing in recent weeks, hope they get here in time for the Knitting and Stitching Show!

All work and no play makes Rowan a dull girrrl, so the weekend before last we took a day trip to Hebden Bridge. Turns out I'm quite the celebrity round those parts...

After finding somewhere to eat and having a magnificent Sunday dinner, we looked for The Heart Gallery, one of KitschenSink's stockists. It took is blinkin' ages but it was worth it!

After having a mooch around we found the delightful cabinet our 'Death by Comicide' range was displayed in:

Can you see my mugshot there? Second shelf down! I had a good gander at the other lovely jewels on offer and the whipped out my camera. I got the feeling the shop assistants were talking about me and I might be in for a telling off for taking photos, but it never happened.

I attempted to slope off, but then noticed the shop assistant was wearing a pair of  Tooth Rot Hoop Earrings. As soon as our eyes met she excalimed 'You're Rowan, aren't you!' and then turned to the other assistant and said 'It is Rowan!'. And I got quite embarrassed. Ha.

And the town love me so much, they names a boat after me

Next time, I expect a statue! Heehee!
