Kokeshi dolls are from northern Japan and are basic in form - a cylinder body and oversized head.
I'm not too fussed about traditional looking Kokeshi dolls, above

Those ninjas are awesome!!
The kokeshi you see up the top are made in Akita prefecture. If my memory serves me, the artist who made those has now passed away, however I think the son makes them now. I have some of those myself.
