Rhubarbash

Today was my first stall in aaaages!!

I was invited to sell at Rhubarbash, a one day festival of local musical talent, indoors and al fresco, at the Havana, Wakefield. Proceeds went to MacMillan Cancer Support.

I had both Kitschen Sink and other makers' work available from Indie Cindy...

My friend Kee Boutique also had a stall...

It got really busy, I had some ciders and watched some fun local bands. A great Sunday!

Super sneaky peek!

...because you must be wondering  what on earth I am doing and where all the jewels are...I promise it's because I am working on a couple of super special projects...

Here's a sneaky peek of what I was up to on Sunday last week. I directed a photo shoot for one of the collections that will be ready very soon.  It was a super fun-packed day. We dressed up, played with make-up and danced around in front of the camera. I was exhausetd by 4pm!

Many thanks to supah-cute Natalie our model, Victoria Stansfield our fantastic make-up artisit, and Carla De Azavedo for photography.  Couldn't have done it without them!

Love magazines? Love indie? Check this!

Ooft I magazines, I do!  And I just found out about this sweeeeet service called Stack.  For less than a fiver (GBP) you can get a different independent magazine sent to your door every month!

Another great example of mutual indie love. What is possibly going to happen is I will fall in love with every title and subscribe to each individually... I see their game!

Hurry, Mr. Postman...

More Austin inspiration

I just wanted to show you a neat little idea I brought back from Austin.

Whilst I was there, I was really bowled over by, not only the people's general warmth, openess, genuiness and honesty, but their commitment to supporting local, independent businesses.

On almost my last day, Kate and I went to South 1st to do a little vintage shopping. The shops were super sweet, actual houses that'd be renovated into stores.  That wouldn't happen in a residential area in the UK. A) there wouldn't be the footfall. B) locals would contest planning permission!

Amelia's, South First, Austin

Anyway. I picked up this cool 'vintage around town guide'. It's really nice to see all the shops who could be seen as competitors get together to create something that supports one another. A simple idea, two sides of A4, a map of the city, numbered, and a blurb for each shop. Simples.  I expect all the shops that are involved just chipped in a few pounds for the printing and someone nice did the designing. I want to bring this back to the UK.

In the cupcake shop, Sugar Mama's, they have a shoe hanger that you can put your business cards in and peg one on the front. See one you recognise? (Bottom right!)

And then how could I forget 'Lovely' who gave us a Margarita as we walked in the door?!

I wonder if they'd all read 'The Power of Nice'? Or maybe it's just all built in their bones?

Austin is definitely where I should be at... or is the grass just greener on the other side of the fence? There's only one way to find out, go for another visit!

Keep it crafty n kitsch and feel the LOVE!!  What do you do to support your fellow independent designers? Share the LOVE!!

Appy burfday to me (June)

It's a little late but I celebrated my birthday in June.  I got loads of stuff including a sequined shower cap (I shower daily what wash my hair kinda rarely...), matey bubble bath, Sailor Jerry rum and some books that came from foreign countries which is why I just received them and it prompted me to write this.
I celebrated with friends at a local Japanese restaurant. A good friend had baked a cake that came with an indoor firework! Yikes!

Also my colleague decorated my office! Lovely day.
